Lara primarily teaches through Thought Fox Writers Den, a writing center she founded and directs in the historic Velvet Mill in Stonington, Connecticut. Thought Fox builds community and supports writers of all levels with in-person and virtual classes, coaching, events, and more.

Lara also teaches at the University of Connecticut, the Yale Young Writers Workshop, and at writing centers throughout the country, including the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing and Story Studio Chicago, where she is a member of the Core Faculty specializing in speculative fiction.
